【英語】 “Zenzai” : 夏にはあんみつとともに、冷たいぜんざいもどうぞ。
“Zenzai” is a Japanese sweet served in a bowl, made of “Azuki”, red beans, sweetened with sugar, and “Mochi“, Japanese rice cake, or “Shiaratama Dango”, sweet dumplings made of sweet rice flour called “Shiratamako”.
Simple ingredients, but actually takes time to prepare. “Azuki” is gently boiled in hot water taking plenty of time with sugar added as a sweetener, until it becomes very soft and half paste-like but half whole beans remaining condition, as seen in the picture. “Mochi” is usually grilled before added to the sweetened “Azuki”,
“Zenzai” could be served either warm, which usually comes with “Mochi” or cold, usually served with “Shiratama Dango”, as in the picture. Cold “Zenzai” is a perfect desert for a hot humid Japanese summer!
